Times of rally cars relayed in real time using Transics on board computers
Transics, the technology company specialising in telematics solutions for commercial vehicles for transport, logistics and services organisations, which completed a capital increase of EUR 5 million last week, puts its cutting-edge technology at the disposal of the Ypres Westhoek Rally.
Targa Florio, who organises the Ypres Westhoek Rally, will make use of Transics' on board computer this year to relay the rally times of the different KP's and time controls to the central computing centre over Mobistar's GPRS network. In previous years, standard laptop computers with ram mobile data communications systems were used for this. The Transics on board computer has several advantages over the portable computers used in the past. For example, the Transics on board computer boots much faster than a laptop and it is dead easy to enter the rally times. As a consequence, the results are more reliable and any disputes are avoided. Thanks to Mobistar's GPRS network, the times are relayed in real time, which yields some big time savings when it comes to computing the final results.
In practice, every time control will have a suitcase, containing a Transics on board computer and a mobile phone/GPRS modem. The results can be transmitted to the server in the central computing centre from that mobile terminal. When the co-driver of a rally car presents his time booklet to a time control and has it filled out, the rally official enters that driver's time into the on board computer. The results arrive at the computer centre only a few seconds later and are processed immediately. This high-speed processing allows the rally enthusiasts to follow the rally on-line on the videonet and/or over the Internet.
The Transics on board computer is generally used to send information, such as driving and resting times, GPS positions and text messages, from commercial vehicles to the control centre. This exceptional rally project will demonstrate that the technology marketed by Transics is very powerful and unfailing. It would fit the bill, for that matter, in any organisation-critical application where speed and reliability are of prime concern.
Transics NV develops and commercialises on board computers, transport administration software and telematics solutions for commercial vehicles for transport, logistics and services organisation. Transics NV employs 90 people and is the largest company in its sector. Headquartered in Ypres (Belgium), Transics NV has offices in the Netherlands and France and is also active in Luxemburg, Germany, Sweden, and Spain. The company is permanently expanding its European organisation.
