Times of rally cars relayed in real-time using Transics on board computers
Transics, the technology company specialized in telematics solutions for commercial vehicles of transport, logistics and services organizations, puts its cutting-edge technology at the disposal of the Ypres Westhoek Rally.
Just like last year Targa Florio, who organizes the Ypres Westhoek Rally, will use the Transics on board computer to relay the rally times of the different KP's and time checkpoints to the computing centre, via the Mobistar GPRS network. In previous years, basic laptop computers combined with RAM Mobile Data communication systems were used.
During the rally, there will be an on board computer at every start and flying finish of a leg . This year the stopwatches will be connected to the on board computer directly. This not only minimizes the risk of incorrect times by wrong entries, it also guarantees that the times arrive at the computing centre in real-time. Moreover, the system allows to follow up what vehicles are in the closed circuit, thus improving safety.
The Transics on board computer is generally used in the transport sector and in field service companies. Besides a tool for collecting data from the vehicles, it also enables efficient communication between the vehicle on the road and its homebase. Transics has a lot of experience in wireless datatransport and uses this communication method to transfer important information such as driving and resting times, GPS positions and text and other messages, in real-time. The fact that Transics again participates in this exceptional rally project proves that the powerful and reliable Transics technology can also be used outside of the transport world.
Transics NV develops and commercializes on board computers, transport administration software and telematics solutions for commercial vehicles for transport, logistics and services organisation. Transics NV employs 90 people and is the largest company in its sector. Headquartered in Ypres (Belgium), Transics NV has offices in the Netherlands and France and is also active in Luxemburg, Germany, Sweden, and Spain. The company is permanently expanding its European organisation.
Targa Florio is the automobile club, based in Ypres, that organises the 40th edition of the Ypres Westhoek Rally, a coefficient 20 round of the European Championship. Targa Florio also organises the Historic Rally, which is another event on the race calendar of the European Championship. The annual rally sprint of Monteberg, which takes place in May every year, is also coordinated by the Targa Florio automobile club.
