Combining navigation and communications ensures cost savings and enhanced safety
Transics, the European market leader in on-board computers and telematics solutions for commercial vehicles, has extended its Quattro Plus on-board computer with a smart navigation system. With the integrated navigation system, the driver can guide his/her vehicle to any destination in Europe without the risk of confusion or errors. As such, many unnecessary kilometres are avoided, thus reducing costs accordingly. The built-in navigation system increases the efficiency of the on-board computer and greatly contributes to the driver's safety.
Built-in navigation system to avoid many kilometres of needless disorientation
A broad array of devices, ranging from PDAs and standalone devices to built-in systems, are currently on the market to guide us to our destination. Transics, however, opted to equip its Quattro Plus on-board computer with some powerful, built-in navigation software. Thanks to this extension, truck drivers will no longer have to enter the location of their destination themselves; this will be done for them at the dispatcher's office when sending the details of a transport job. In this way, slight misunderstandings (such as identical place names in the same country, different spelling methods, .) will no longer cause drivers, for example other-language-speakers, to go to the wrong destination.
Navigation systems ensure quick Return on Investment
Studies have revealed that navigation systems deliver a quick Return on Investment, for any type of transport. When using a navigation system, drivers, who increasingly face rapidly-changing traffic situations, traffic jams, temporary diversions, etc., ... , will quickly avoid tens of kilometres of disorientation per month. In addition, a navigation system ensures a significant time saving, as the driver no longer has to 'look for' the right road. "When drivers are able to eliminate 10 kilometre and at least one hour of disorientation per month, dispatchers will already get back their investment in our navigation software", said Walter Mastelinck.
On-board computer combining communications and navigation: a guarantee for safety
The search for unknown addresses can be stressful for any driver. Furthermore, the risk of choosing the wrong road and suffering material damage increases considerably whenever the driver is unable to focus solely on the traffic around him. "Some truck dashboards, these days, resemble the shop window of an electronics shop rather than the ergonomically-sound workplace drivers need. Besides an on-board computer for trip registration and communications, there's a mobile phone, a smart navigation system with accompanying software, devices to control the temperature of the load, etc., ... Transics has succeeded in combining all these devices into an ergonomic on-board computer that comprises trip registration, a GPRS modem, temperature control and, since recently, navigation software. In this way, our company not only enhances the ergonomics of the solution but also, and above all, adds to the driver's safety and comfort. Drivers are now able to concentrate on their core task, which is driving", explained Transics' managing director, Walter Mastelinck. Quattro Plus uses navigation software from map&guide that is distributed in the Benelux by PTV Ordis.
