Transics On-Board Computer reads out the digital tacho's mass data

Big time-savings and less risk of fines

Transics, the European market leader in on-board computers and fleet management solutions for the transport sector, again announces a new functional feature on its bestselling Quattro Plus on-board computer. The Quattro is now also able to read out the mass memory of the digital tachograph and forward the data to the home base. This new tool for the legally obliged data transfer ensures huge time gains and allows the transporter to anticipate possible deviations in data logging.

Legislation on the digital tachograph stipulates that transporters are obliged to read out the driver card of the digital tacho every 21 days and store the data. In addition, the data contained in the mass memory have to be read out every 60 days. With the Transics Digitach Card Reader (Transics DCR), Transics already provides a tool to read out the digital tacho driver card. The new development, the Transics Digitach Memory Download (Transics DMD), goes one step further.

Time gain and no logistic headaches

With the Transics DMD, the transporter can read out the mass memory of the digital tacho via the Quattro Plus on-board computer. The information is then forwarded automatically to the head office. "Without the Transics tool, this procedure takes at least 15 minutes per truck; 5 to 6 times per year. A simple calculation shows that this transaction takes the carrier quite some time - and, consequently, costs money. Thanks to the recently launched Transics DMD, the data is read out remotely in full compliance with the statutory regulations. With this new product feature, Transics is meeting customer demand. The direct return is obvious: huge time-savings and no logistic headaches," said Transics' managing director Walter Mastelinck.

Less risk of fines

During the development of the tool for data transfer to the home base, Transics discovered that the digital tachograph processes the driving times differently than its analogue counterpart. With the digital tacho, driving activities that take more than 45 seconds are always rounded up to 1minute. In practice, this implies that 15 to 45 minutes of extra driving time is logged each day. In addition, the digital tacho always registers the end of an activity as 'working time' while the analogue tacho logs it as 'rest'. All these deviations cause extra registered working time and less available rest. Transics provides a solution to this problem as well. Through the Transics Digitach Synchro (Transics DS), a 'smart' cable between the on-board computer and the digital tacho, the driving times are registered like they have been processed and interpreted by the digital tachograph. This information is then sent in real time to head office. Consequently, the dispatcher always has the correct driving and resting times for his planning and the risk of fines is drastically reduced.

Thorough know-how and expertise

These latest product developments confirm, once more, that Transics is a prominent expert in on-board computers for the transport sector. Thanks to years' of experience in the industry, the company knows the transporters' needs and requirements, like the back of its hand. More than catering to these, the market leader tries to anticipate them by providing new functional features. In this way, Transics further consolidates its leadership position.
