We now use GPRS communication between the on-board computers and the back office. This means that the dispatchers always have real-time information about the fleet.
Did the computerization bring a higher productivity?
Certainly, only it's very hard to put a number on that.
How would you rank the functionalities of an on board computer, in order of importance?
- Information about the fleet: where, when, and what is the driver doing?
- Controlling driving and resting times, GPS positioning.
- Reports of driving and resting times, statistics and different activities.
What advice can you give to colleagues who'd like to computerize?
Check out the system at different references and test the system with a couple of vehicles.
How long do you expect it will take to get a return on investment?
About 3 to 5 years.
