"Integration and efficient communication"
Transics is a well-known developer of on board computers and telematic solutions for the transport and the logistic sector. It has recently concluded the highly successful implementation of an integrated on board computer solution at a prominent transport company in the Netherlands.
At transport company G. van der Heijden, which specializes in national and international container transport from its basis in Ridderkerk, the Transics project meant equipping the entire fleet with on board computers and integrating this hardware with the back-office automation.
“We chose Transics because this organization is entirely focused on making, developing and maintaining the fleet management solution.” Says Rob van der Heijden, in charge of the implementation and follow-up of the on board computer. “The system is now fully integrated with our Cat-Logic software which we have been using for quite some time now. This ensures a faster administrative process, calm and quiet at the dispatching department and of course an increase of the service towards our customers.”, thus Rob van der Heijden.
Transport orders are sent directly from the dispatching department to the Transics on board computers using GPRS communication by Vodafone. This very same medium also sends all status and position reports from the vehicles to the homebase. “The complete hour justification of the driver is forwarded via GPRS to the office in Ridderkerk. It is no longer required for drivers to return to the office and read their driver's pass. This allows us to adjust our administration and inform our customers instantly.” On top of these advantages, GPRS communication has significant cost advantages, according to Rob van der Heijden.
GPRS is a data transport technology designed as a support for GSM networks. Just like the Internet it sends information in small data packages instead of a continuous stream of information. This allows a connection that is faster and of better quality. The technology is specifically adapted to mobile data applications like on board communication. Between transport company G. van der Heijden and Transics, Vodafone Business Point has proposed the perfect GPRS solution.
The project also meant a partnership with Cat Logic, the supplier of the logistics software employed by Van der Heijden. Van der Heijden wanted to be able to forward the information in the on board computer toward the Container Management System (CMS-CH â ). Rien van Brugge, project leader for Cat-Logic: "To this purpose we realised an interface between both databases. The result is a real-time connection, which means that all data available in the Transics database is also available for consultation in CMS-CH â of Cat-Logic.
“The implementation of this project as well of many others proves that telematics can be integrated with existing back office just perfectly. The project agrees with Transics policy to support and encourage 3 rd party integration”, thus Walter Mastelinck, managing director of Transics NV.
Transics NV develops and commercialises on board computers, transport administration software and telematic solutions for the transport and the logistics sector. With its 90 employees, Transics NV is the largest company in this sector. Transics NV has its headquarters in Ieper (Belgium) and has offices in the Netherlands (Gorinchem) and France (Lyon). Transics NV is also active in Germany, Sweden, and Spain and continues to expand its European organisation.
