Transics acquires European activities of CarrierWeb

Acquisition strengthens Transics’ leadership in the European fleet management market

Transics International NV, a European market leader in high-end fleet management solutions for the European transport and logistics sector, today acquired the European activities of CarrierWeb. CarrierWeb is, like Transics, a provider of high-end fleet management systems. It serves an installed base of around 10,000 trucks in Europe, which Transics will keep supporting in the future. With this acquisition, Transics strengthens its position in the European market.

CarrierWeb, which was set up in the Netherlands in 2002, has experienced strong growth in Europe, Brazil, the United States and China ever since its establishment. Today, around 10,000 European vehicles are equipped with CarrierWeb on-board computers, mostly in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. This acquisition will help Transics significantly expand its current installed base.
The CarrierWeb group will continue its business outside of Europe. The resources acquired through the sale of its European activities will be invested to drive growth and continued product innovation in the US, Brazil and China.

The consideration paid for the acquisition of the European business amounts to 6.0 million euros, fully paid in cash. In 2010 the acquired operations generated annual revenues of circa 6.4 million euros, of which 4.2 million euros recurring.

Combining expertise and know-how

The acquisition is good news for the more than 400 CarrierWeb European customers and its 30 employees based in Eindhoven and Dublin. The CarrierWeb solution will continue to be supported in the future. “I can’t think of a better fit for CarrierWeb and its customers than Transics,” said Arthur Viegers, co-founder of CarrierWeb, who will also join Transics. “Transics is an established leader that continues to pioneer the market of fleet management solutions. This acquisition will ensure continuity and substantial added value for our customers and our staff.”

Stronger market leader

“The acquisition of this successful, profitable company represents a significant step for Transics in its strategy to accelerate growth,” said Walter Mastelinck, CEO of Transics. “We will now have a greater presence in Europe, where there are still plenty of growth opportunities, and we will benefit from synergies and economies of scale. In addition, I am delighted to increase the expertise of our R&D team by welcoming the R&D staff from CarrierWeb, which is known as an innovator in its field. Altogether, the takeover will make Transics an even stronger player.”

Interesting synergy opportunities

This deal further forges an alliance between both international groups, whereby each retains its own focus and development capability. Transics and CarrierWeb consider potentially lucrative cooperation opportunities, both in the commercial field and with regard to product development.

CarrierWeb develops and markets high-end transport management solutions. Originally set up in the Netherlands in 2002, the company has been growing very quickly, building up a solid customer base in Europe. Based in Atlanta, its activities in the USA and China were initiated in 2004 and 2005, and in April 2005 CarrierWeb acquired Brazilian-based Globaltrac Soluções e Tecnologias Ltda, a distinctive web-based security solutions provider. Currently over 20,000 vehicles around the world have been equipped with a CarrierWeb system.

Established in 1991, Transics International NV develops and commercializes high-end fleet management solutions for the transport and logistics sector. H.Essers chooses Transics TX-MAGELLAN COLD for temperature monitoring in refrigerated trucks

Order reconfirms Essers’ trust in Transics for many years

H.Essers, Belgium’s largest logistics services provider, will equip its refrigerated trucks with TX-MAGELLAN COLD, a module of the recently launched TX-MAGELLAN trailer management suite from market leader Transics. The transport group has been relying on a Transics’ fleet management system for many years now. The solution helps H.Essers offer its customers optimal efficiency and a high service level. With TX-MAGELLAN, the logistics services provider takes it even one step further: H.Essers is now able to closely monitor the temperature of every load online and remotely and provide its customers with this added-value information.

H.Essers, based in the Belgian province of Limburg, has landed many prestigious Belgian awards and titles (Company of the Year, Trends Gazellen Ambassadeur) over the past few years, in recognition of its rapid growth and thorough innovative strength. The transport and logistics company strongly believes in the power of advanced technology to enhance processes and services. Essers’ trucks are equipped with Transics on-board computers that ensure up-to-date information exchange between the drivers and the back office. More than Essers itself, the customers too benefit from this real-time insight: they can track the status of their goods through the Essers Truck-&-Trace portal. From now on, they will also get temperature reports for certain goods, generated by Transics’ TX-MAGELLAN COLD module.

Precise temperature monitoring

Essers selected TX-MAGELLAN COLD after extensive market research and testing of the solution. Today, the tracer has already been installed in 50 of the group’s dual temp trailers; 20 refrigerated trucks will be fitted with the COLD module in the future. The trailers are mainly used to transport pharmaceutical products, which is a tightly regulated procedure. Via independent temperature sensors, TX-MAGELLAN COLD verifies if the required temperature conditions remain fulfilled and if the cooling unit is working optimally. As soon as the predefined limits – too warm or too cold – are exceeded or the cooling system is disturbed, a warning signal is sent to the driver and the back office.

Added value

Ivo Marechal (CEO): “More than being able to pinpoint the position of these trailers and view the routes travelled, we can monitor the temperature in real time and take action whenever needed. We also receive a warning if the trailer doors are opened at an unusual location or timing. Our control tower monitors these data. In this way, we can update our customers on the status of their cargo accurately and quickly.” Essers’ investment in TX-MAGELLAN COLD fits the carriers’ ambition to offer more and more value-added services, amongst others for companies from the pharmaceutical and health care industries.

Optimal truck and trailer management

TX-MAGELLAN COLD is part of Transics’ brand new family of solutions to help carriers optimally manage their trailers. “Our mission is to help them retain an edge over the competition in this highly competitive, challenging transport market. Until recently we only focused on the trucks. Now we can offer an all-in-one solution that helps carriers manage both their trucks and trailers. We are very proud that a large group like H.Essers decided to add a module from our new suite to its existing Transics on-board computers,” concluded Transics’ CEO Walter Mastelinck.

Since its development in 1928, the family-owned company H.Essers has grown into one of Europe’s largest transport and logistics services providers for sectors like the chemical, pharmaceutical / health care industries and high-quality goods transport. H.Essers boasts 26 branches dotted around 13 countries. It has a fleet of 1,250 trucks, a total warehouse capacity of 800,000 m2 and employs 3,000 persons. In 2010, Essers generated a turnover of EUR 310 millions.
