Group H. Essers equips 2,000 trailers with Transics’ latest TX-MAGELLAN GEO solution

Trailer management optimisation boosts efficiency

The trailer management solutions that high-end telematics leader Transics International launched earlier this year, clearly meet a need in the transport market, so it appears: carriers are showing a keen interest in the new offering. Shortly after Transalliance (FR), Transics customer H. Essers, Belgium’s largest logistics services provider, also decided to equip its entire fleet with TX-MAGELLAN GEOs, in order to better track its trailers. Earlier this year, H. Essers had already installed TX-MAGELLAN COLD tracers to monitor the temperature in its reefers. Both TX-MAGELLAN solutions are perfectly integrated into Essers’ back office software. By adopting TX-MAGELLAN GEO, H. Essers wishes to optimise its trailer management, thus boosting its efficiency and customer services and strengthening its edge in the market.

Transport and logistics group H. Essers, located in the Belgian province of Limburg, has grown into one of Europe’s leading transport and logistics groups over the past ten years. The company considers its investments in flexibility and quality and its asset-based strategy as the keys to its success. Unlike many other carriers, H. Essers owns its own warehouses, trucks, trailers and IT systems, which allow it to optimally manage all its processes. By installing TX-MAGELLAN GEO, the group wishes to further optimise its trailer fleet management.

Smooth installation

TX-MAGELLAN GEO is part of Transics’ TX-MAGELLAN range. As the tracer is fed by its own battery – which has a lifespan of at least 4 years -, it can be mounted easily and discreetly, in next to no time (a few minutes only). The tracer, which is perfectly integrated into the back office software, pinpoints the exact location of all trailers and whether or not they are coupled to a truck. In this way, the staff in the back office can track the trailer’s location. As freight planners know exactly which trailers are on the road or left unused, they can deploy their fleet to the max.

Quick payback

“Competition is staggering in the transport market. Consequently, we are always on the lookout for solutions to increase our efficiency and cost-effectiveness,” said Ivo Marechal, CEO of the H. Essers Group. “Our trucks have been carrying a Transics on-board computer for many years now. More recently, we have equipped our reefers with TX-MAGELLAN COLD to monitor the temperature conditions. With TX-MAGELLAN GEO, we are able to track each trailer in detail. This will significantly enhance our planning. Moreover, drivers will gain time too, as they will immediately find the trailer they are looking for at the parking lots. These two benefits will ensure an immediate return on our investment.”

Setting the tone

“Until recently, Transics helped carriers improve their communications between trucks, drivers and the back office. Now, we also offer trailer management solutions. The keen interest that Group H. Essers – and many other players in the market – have shown in this new TX-MAGELLAN range proves that there is a need for such solutions that help companies gain an edge over the competition,” said Transics’ CEO Walter Mastelinck. “Group H. Essers has been setting the tone in the Belgian and European transport market for many years now. Transics is proud that it can support its continued growth efforts.”

Transics introduces smartphone-enabled fleet management

A permanent view of the fleet to boost productivity and reduce stress levels

Transics, provider of high-end fleet management solutions, will unveil its latest innovation at the Trailer and Solutrans trade fair at the end of November: a smartphone version of the widespread TX-CONNECT back office platform.

Besides the new mobile platform, visitors to booth 607 at Kortrijk Expo (Belgium) and booth 9 X 13 at Eurexpo Lyon (France) will also discover Transics’ complete fleet management product offering. Carriers looking for a solution to offset rocketing fuel costs, acquire real-time fleet and driver information, enhance communications with their customers, improve road safety or ensure easier compliance with all legislation will discover solutions that meet their needs at the Transics booth.

Keeping an eye on the fleet, at all times

Transport activities are not restricted to office hours. That is why Transics has developed a mobile solution that allows carriers to respond to the situation on the road out of office hours too. TX-CONNECT MOBILE is a smartphone version of Transics’ TX-CONNECT back office software – a widely-used platform that provides all the fleet data carriers need to optimise transport operations, from departure to arrival. The new mobile TX-CONNECT enables freight planners to log on to the TX-CONNECT platform at any time, via their smartphone (BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad, etc.).

The countless possibilities of going mobile

The features offered by the mobile tools are innumerable. Mobile access to TX-CONNECT allows freight planners to check the status of their vehicles, pinpoint their location (on a map) and read the messages of their drivers anywhere, so that they can respond promptly whenever necessary. No more need, therefore, to log on to the PC at home or in the office. Walter Mastelinck, Transics’ CEO: “We felt there is an increasing need for flexible fleet management, these days. TX-CONNECT MOBILE is our answer to that requisite. We are confident that existing as well as future customers will surely appreciate our new mobile platform.” Moeijes Internationale Transporten, a Dutch carrier with 68 vehicles, is already familiar with TX-CONNECT MOBILE. “It is a great tool to support our freight planners when they’re not in the office. After a short trial, we immediately purchased nine smartphones equipped with the mobile solution, so that we’re always connected with our vehicles, wherever we are,” said Dirk-Jan Sijp, responsible for on-board computers and communications at Moeijes.

Trailer management and remote downloading of the DigiTach mass memory

At Trailer and Solutrans, Transics will also demonstrate its trailer management solutions. The TX-MAGELLAN family includes various trailer tracers that offer different functions. Depending on the type, the tracers allow carriers to correctly calculate the distance travelled – an ideal basis for correct invoices -, monitor their reefers and timely schedule maintenance. All crucial features that guarantee a maximal uptime of the fleet.

Last but not least, visitors to Trailer and Solutrans will view demos on the remote downloading of tachograph data via the TX-MAX on-board computer. A company card and a card reader in the office is all carriers need to remotely download the mass memory of the latest digital tachographs and transfer the files directly to a PC or server. Besides providing an immediate analysis of legislative breaches, this new way of working helps carriers save time and effort: drivers no longer have to get to the office; there’s no need for extra staff to read out the digital tacho data at the parking area and the carrier retains full control of the download process.

Business highlights

Successful launch of trailer tracer solution
The TX-MAGELLAN product suite is our trailer tracer solution. The TX-MAGELLAN was launched in Q2 2011 and we started Q3 with over 5,500 units in our order book. This new product is sold to existing customers as well as to new customers. Many of our on-board computer users across Europe have expressed a need for the product as evidenced by early successes in Belgium with VRD Logistiek (120 units), Molenberg Natie (80 units), Group H. Essers (2,000 units) or in France with Transalliance (4,000 units). Like with the rest of our solution offering, Transics generates both upfront product sales and recurring revenues with the TX-MAGELLAN.

At the start of this third quarter, Transics sold its TMS (Transport Management System) division to Wolters Kluwer Transport Services. The divestment will allow the company to focus solely on its core business of fleet management solutions.

The outlook for 2011

Management is maintaining the guidance it gave at the end of 2010: revenues are expected to grow at a double-digit rate to reach €48 million to €50 million and EBITDA margin is expected to remain stable at 20%.
