Italian carrier De Girolami equips 120 trucks with Transics to raise efficiency, safety and eco-friendliness

An increasing number of carriers understand that (cost-)effectiveness and outstanding customer services, as well as respect for the environment, are key to survive in the challenging transport market. Italian carrier De Girolami relies on Transics’ fleet management solutions to help it face today’s challenges. The TX-MAX on-board computers, and the back-office software TX-CONNECT, which are seamlessly integrated into the carrier’s existing transport software, help De Girolami curb costs while working much more efficiently. The carrier also integrated Transics’ TX-ECO SCORE driving style indicator to steer its drivers towards safer and eco-friendlier driving – a first in the Italian transport market.

De Girolami is a steadily growing company that offers transport services by road, sea and air throughout Europe and beyond, as well as logistics services. The carrier replaced its existing FMS system from a local supplier with Transics’ fleet management solution to curb rocketing fuel and communication costs and gain a better overview of service times. The choice of Transics was made on account of the unique features of the fleet management solution as well as the company’s strong reputation and excellent customer service.

The TX-MAX on-board computers, including tachograph and CANbus connection, provide the drivers and planners via the back-office software TX-CONNECT at De Girolami with a real-time view on service times, thus raising their planning and efficiency levels and enhancing customer services. The administration team too saves time. Fuel and communication costs have dropped significantly, as has the number of parasite kilometres.

To further cut costs while alerting drivers to the (environmental) impact of their driving style, De Girolami set up a driving style training program at the end of 2012. Developed together with ASC Quattroruote –professional driving school (Tuttotrasporti-EdiDomus group), the program comprises specific courses where participants learn about the most innovative driving techniques. Transics’ TX-ECO SCORE driving style analysis tool helps the company to continually evaluate, coach and encourage its drivers to drive more (energy) efficiently. After the first 5 months of the ECO-SCORE implementation, the reduction in fuel consumption was 5% based on the 60% of drivers, with a peak of 12% calculated on the top ten list of the best drivers. The goal for the first year has been set at 6%. With this trend, CO2 emissions estimated at the end of 2013 will be reduced by nearly 300 tons of CO2 over the previous year. Among the European transport companies using TX-ECO SCORE by Transics the average reduction in fuel consumption is 8%, combined with a decrease in maintenance costs of 3.5% and a reduction in accident rates of 14.5% on an annual basis. De Girolami is the first company in Italy to take part in this program.

“The Transics fleet management solution helps us improve our service level and quality, which positively impacts our Return of Investment,” said, Mr Giulio De Girolami – CEO. “The TX-ECO SCORE tool is very useful. It helps us to know and analyze the driving style of our drivers on the road. We know that driving efficiently means working in a professional manner and save. With continuous training on board, we are able to match the different driving styles bringing them to a standard of eco-driving optimal for our business. Reducing fuel consumption is important and fundamental for the reduction of CO2 emissions. It also results in an increased safety of drivers and their cargo and a decrease in maintenance costs of vehicles. What’s more Transics’ TX-ECO SCORE reaffirms our commitment to being an efficient, professional and eco-friendly international transport company.”
