Van Zaal Transport optimises logistics processes with ORTEC and Transics

One million: that’s the number of carts filled with plants and flowers that Van Zaal Transport ships throughout the Netherlands each year. To optimise the complex freight planning process, the logistics services provider recently integrated its Transics fleet management system – including the mobile TX-SMART application – into the planning software from ORTEC. Van Zaal is the first customer in the bulk consignment transport segment to select an integrated solution of the Transport Initiatief (Transport Initiative), the Dutch collaboration agreement between four leaders in transport automation and optimisation.

Van Zaal Transport has been using Transics’ on-board computers for many years now. “As a long-term customer of Transics, it seemed quite logical to select ORTEC planning software. We had full confidence in the integrated offering via the Transport Initiatief. Moreover, ORTEC proposed the most advanced planning solutions,” said Merijn van Zaal, owner of Van Zaal. “Its planning suite comprises a very wide range of features.”

“The real-time connection between the Transics on-board computers and the ORTEC planning software helps us improve our customer services, plan more effectively and cut costs,” Van Zaal continues. He illustrates this with an example: “Just like every logistical service provider in the green sector, we handle a lot of returns: we deliver carts with plants and the carts come back empty. These empties are not considered as a planning flow in normal planning systems. ORTEC and Transics have ensured that we do get an overview of these flows, which helps us save costs: in the past we never asked any rental fee for carts that didn’t come back, while now we do.”

Merijn van Zaal: “The time limitation feature offers substantial added value too. The advanced planning possibilities in the ORTEC system allow us to apply time frames to, for example, certain locations in the city or for a customer who wants to get his goods at a specific time. If there is a delay, we immediately notice it thanks to the real-time connection with Transics. We can then inform the customer in due course, which helps improve customer satisfaction.”

Equally handy is Transics’ mobile TX-SMART application that Van Zaal uses for subcontractors. Drivers can download the TX-SMART app onto their smartphone and then exchange information with the freight planners in the back office: trip or planning details, barcode scans, pallet information, details on damage sustained, pictures, digital signatures, etc. “The TX-SMART app is also seamlessly integrated into ORTEC’s planning software, so that both the driver and the planner remain informed in real time, and our subcontractors are integrated into the logistics chain,” Van Zaal explains. “Moreover, the TX-SMART pay-per-use model is very flexible: at the end of each month, we only pay for the days on which the drivers actually used the software.”

By choosing ORTEC and Transics, Van Zaal Transport hopes it now has a multi-user, integrated solution that helps it plan more efficiently, deploying all its trucks to the max. Merijn van Zaal: “We often work with partial loads and everything we do is very ad hoc: not tomorrow or the day after that, but right away. It is therefore key to have an immediate overview.”

The Transport Initiatief welcomes Van Zaal as the first customer from the collective transport segment. “The implementation cycle was really short, thanks to the good cooperation with Van Zaal Transport, amongst many other factors,” said ORTEC’s Sales Manager Larry Diender. Account manager Russell Senden from Transics: “The project proves that we are ready to cater to the needs of the bulking transport segment. By integrating our solutions, we can really help carriers work more efficiently, which is a must in today’s competitive market.” Merijn van Zaal concludes: “We managed to finish the project in a very short time frame thanks to the incredible efforts of everyone involved. They all worked day and night, even in the weekends. Nothing was too much. The dedication of the project team was incredible!”

Transics and Axxès team up to integrate the French eco-tax into fleet management solutions

Transics, a European expert in fleet management solutions for the transport and logistics sector, announces that it has signed a collaboration agreement with Axxès, a leader in European interoperable electronic toll payment services for heavy goods vehicles. Under the agreement, which was concluded during the SITL trade show, both experts will deliver integrated solutions for the management of the French eco-tax, which will come into force on the 1st of October.

Transics and Axxès bundle their know-how and technology to deliver a unique interface for the visualisation and analysis of carriers’ toll and tax expenditure.

For Axxès’ customers, this agreement offers an ideal opportunity to do more with the data collected by their Viaxxès SAT boxes for toll and eco-tax expenditure management. Thanks to the TX-CONNECT MP web application, developed by Transics, they will be able to pinpoint the position of their vehicles on a professional fleet monitoring platform.

Transics’ customers, for their part, will appreciate that the data from Axxès’ Viaxxès SAT can be directly integrated into the TX-CONNECT back office software, thus giving them an overview of vehicle positions as well as toll and eco-tax expenditure details.

Walter Mastelinck, Transics’ CEO: “Both Axxès and Transics as well as our respective customers will benefit from this agreement. Our customers will be equipped to meet the upcoming eco-tax requirements, while being able to manage the eco-tax expenditure from their existing back office portal. Axxès’ customers will undoubtedly appreciate how our partnership helps them take their fleet management to the next level.”

Transics as well as Axxès had a booth at the SITL trade show in Paris Nord Villepinte from 26. to 28. March last.

With over 30,000 customers and a 45% market share, Axxès is a leader in European interoperable electronic toll payment services for heavy goods vehicles. Axxès offers goods carriers and tourists a smart toll solution: all they need is an on-board device and one single subscription contract to easily pay toll charges all over Europe and PL taxes in France. Axxès developed a dedicated geolocalisation service to optimise and understand toll and road tax expenditure. In addition to its own products, Axxès also offers the services of its partners, which supply integrated fleet management solutions. Established in 2005 following a European directive aiming to establish pan-European toll services, Axxès is a subsidiary of a number of France largest highway concessionaries (ASF, ESCOTA, APRR-AREA, ATMB and SFTRF-SITAF) and of the Crédit Mutuel CIC bank group.

Transics and eurotoll develop a joint offering

Combine the best of fleet management and a new box for electronic toll and eco-tax management in one, single package: that is the product offering of Transics and eurotoll as from today. Transics’ TX-CONNECT MP application will allow eurotoll customers to visualise the data collected by their latest-generation TriboxAir for eco-tax and toll management in a professional, easy-to-use web-based fleet monitoring platform. Carriers who are already using Transics’ on-board solutions and the Tribox Air will have easy access to all eco-tax details and alerts on their existing TX-CONNECT back office platform.

Transics, an expert in fleet management and a European leader in its field, and eurotoll, a European leader in value-added electronic toll payment services, announce that they have signed a technical and commercial cooperation agreement.

The partnership arose from the determination of both companies to deliver a new, high-quality service based on the boxes initially designed for eco-tax payments.

“As proven with the first generation of the Tribox, eurotoll is an experienced supplier of geolocalisation services. They approached us with an interesting, pretty straightforward proposal: they wanted to offer their customers a first step towards fleet management, without the upfront investments needed for a fully-fledged fleet management solution,” said Walter Mastelinck, CEO of Transics. “Their idea attracted us right away as we know many carriers would be interested in coupling the professionalism of our fleet management system with a solution to manage the Heavy-Duty Vehicle tax (eco-tax), at a shared cost.”

“Transics is a reference beacon in the European fleet management market, which is renowned for its technical expertise. We were impressed by their commitment to listen to customers and by the pragmatic approach of their solutions,” continued Philippe Duthoit, General Manager of eurotoll. “Transics immediately understood that certain carriers are really interested in a basic level of fleet management. A joint offering would allow them to transform the constraint imposed by the eco-tax into an opportunity to become familiar with fleet management. Of course, the solution is not as complete as Transics’ other products, but it is much more than what we can offer alone.”

“Even customers who are already using our solutions will be interested in integrating the real-time information provided by eurotoll into their fleet management solution. In this way, the eco-tax will be introduced into their operations very naturally, without causing too many changes or stress, thus enabling them to focus on their core activities,” concluded Arie van der Jagt, Transics` Vice President of strategic alliances.

“The agreement brings about a new suite of services that provides our customers with access to professional, proven tools that offer great value for money. In addition, we are glad to introduce our customers to a professional fleet management supplier, who can help them with ancillary fleet management services like the processing of social security data, trailer tracking or eco-driving,” added Rodolphe Henry, Marketing Manager at eurotoll.

Eurotoll is the European leader in electronic toll payment services, offering expert advice, products and services. A pioneer in the interoperability of electronic toll systems, eurotoll boasts a network covering most European highways and other road infrastructures. Eurotoll also provides carriers with a range of accessible services via a designated contract and a unique set of invoices, optimisation of the toll stations, fleet management tools, fuel consumption monitoring, recovery of VAT, services for the HGV eco-tax, etc. Established in 2006, eurotoll currently employs 60 persons and has business partners in 27 countries of the European Union.
