WABCO and Sioen Industries Launch Innovative Connected Technology to Prevent Trailer Cargo Thefts

WABCO and Sioen Industries Launch Innovative Connected Technology to Prevent Trailer Cargo Thefts

WABCO Holdings Inc. (NSYE: WBC), a leading global supplier of technologies and services that improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles, is combining its expertise with Belgium-based Sioen Industries to combat the rising issue of trailer cargo theft incidents with its new “Detector” solution.

Cargo theft is an increasing issue with a report by BSI Supply Chain Services and Solutions, revealing that 86% of Europe truck theft incidents[1] relate to cargo. In addition to disrupting the customers’ supply chain, cargo theft has a significant adverse impact for fleet owners from damaged trailers and vehicles to downtime and increased insurance fees.

Committed to “protection through innovation”, Sioen has upgraded its Dynatex PROTECTOR technology to produce a smart, multi-layered tarpaulin with conductive layers that can be fitted to trailer doors and sides. WABCO will power this technology via its advanced Fleet Management Solution (FMS), TX-TRAILERGUARD™. An alarm will be automatically triggered should the tarpaulin be tampered with. Drivers are alerted through an audible warning or an in-cab notification. An alarm is also sent to the fleet back office in real time through WABCO’s TX-CONNECT™ solution.

When combined with WABCO’s OptiLock™, an advanced wireless electronic door lock which enables remote live monitoring and management of trailer access, fleets can now further improve their ability to control potential trailer breaches in real time.

Detector is a fully working solution having been tested in the field by a number of leading fleets. This includes Belgium-based Soncotra, which was the first to apply the new, advanced technology within its trailer fleet. Soncotra manages over 15,000 full truck and groupage loads annually across Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the CIS countries and the Middle East.

“With half of our trailer fleet consisting of box trailers, the demand from our customers to deliver their cargo within their expectations is a key priority for us,” explained Isabelle Lamaire, CEO of Soncotra. “Our fleet is already equipped with WABCO’s advanced telematics, so the addition of a reinforced and connected curtain-sider tarpaulin enables us to significantly increase the security we offer to our customers’ cargo.”

“I am delighted to join forces with WABCO to develop this innovative all-in-one solution that will enable fleets to take the security of their customer’s cargo to the next level,” said Frederik Vroman, Sioen Sales and Business Development Manager. “We’ve been committed to protecting trailers against cargo theft for over 15 years and this is the next important milestone in delivering this commitment.”

“Building on Sioen’s leading tarpaulin technology and WABCO’s advanced digital solutions, we are jointly delivering the next generation of commercial vehicle safety solutions for fleets, tackling one of the industry’s biggest challenges,” added Peter Bal, WABCO Business Leader Fleet Solutions EMEA. “As we continue to grow our portfolio of connected solutions to support transporters’ demands for leaner, greener and safer operations, key partnerships like these will enable the industry to further leverage the opportunities presented by digitization.”

WABCO Telematics Boost Efficiency and Safety for Almajdouie’s Extensive Middle East-based Fleet

WABCO Telematics Boost Efficiency and Safety for Almajdouie’s Extensive Middle East-based Fleet

WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WBC), the leading global supplier of braking control systems and other advanced technologies that improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles, announced today that it has signed a landmark deal with Almajdouie Logistics Company in Saudi Arabia. WABCO is equipping 1,200 trucks and 1,400 trailers of the leading Saudi-based transport company, with its advanced telematics solutions and supporting services, replacing the company’s current basic track-and-trace solution.

The implementation of the new solution will support Almajdouie’s ambitious digital transformation program, enabling it to increasingly build its business through real-time fleet management capabilities and data-driven insights.

WABCO’s advanced Fleet Management Systems (FMS) will enable Almajdouie to strongly differentiate their customer service and quality. The technology will significantly increase the efficiency of both its fleet and back office operations, cut operating costs, help meet increasingly stringent regional legal requirements and boost driver and cargo safety.

“For years, Almajdouie has been using a basic track-and-trace solution to pinpoint the whereabouts of its fleet. In today’s increasingly competitive and connected logistics market, that is no longer enough,” explained Almajdouie Logistics Heavy Lift General Manager, Eyad Hamzah Arafah. “As operating costs, particularly for fuel, continue to rise, we wanted more control over both our fleet and cargo while simultaneously raising the efficiency of our drivers and our back office to better service our customer base. The new solution will also enable us to further boost our stringent safety requirements, which is our number one priority.”

WABCO as their partner of choice
After a thorough market study, Almajdouie selected WABCO as its partner of choice. In line with the agreement, WABCO’s advanced TX-GOTM 2 on-board computers will be fitted in all Almajdouie trucks. Installed behind the dashboard, TX-GO 2 is connected to the CAN bus. The solution delivers advanced fuel management capabilities, cargo and temperature monitoring, trend reporting and driver authentication and driver scoring.

The Almajdouie trailers will feature WABCO’s robust TX-TRAILERGUARDTM telematics device, which will be connected to various peripherals and sensors to monitor cargo weight compliant with the new legislation. In this way, dispatchers in the back office will be able to easily manage, track, and control their designated trailers remotely.

“WABCO offers one of the widest and most complete portfolios in the sector, combining solutions for trucks, trailers and the back office into one single ecosystem,” Mr. Arafah added. “Other key considerations in the selection included the extensive ECO program and smooth integration with our existing TMS and ERP systems.”

Almajdouie expects the new telematics solution to support its ambitions around leaner, greener and safer operations. The combined truck and trailer solution will help the company gain real-time visibility of its fleet and cargo, enabling it to deploy vehicles and trailers to their maximum capacity as well as increase vehicle uptime.

Expanding coverage in Middle East
Almajdouie is the second largest logistics company in the Middle East to choose WABCO solutions. WABCO has been enabling Saudi Arabia-based Almarai – one of the world’s biggest dairy companies – to future-proof their fleet. With this new agreement, WABCO is significantly strengthening its foothold in the fast-growing MENA logistics market.

“We are honored to welcome a market leader like Almajdouie Logistics as a greatly valued customer,” said Peter Bal, Business Leader Fleet Solutions EMEA at WABCO. “We are confident that our solutions will boost their ambitious digitization journey and will enable them to take their already highly rated customer services to the next level.”
